Qin Gang said developing constructive ties is in the interests of the two peoples and global peace and stability.

The battle for the top post in the White House is now almost over. The two candidates are viewed as having different stances towards China. With his war veteran image, John McCain is believed to be more hawkish on the issue of Taiwan while Barack Obama is seen as less likely to play hard on Taiwan, and has recently criticized China for its currency policies and trade surplus.
