This is the first official step in America's intricate minuet of transition from one president to the next.
The Obamas were greeted by outgoing president George W.Bush and First Lady Laura Bush upon arrival.
The 43rd and 44th US presidents were expected to discuss the challenges of leading a nation under the shadow of a severe economic downturn and two wars.
The country's troubles fall to Obama when he takes office on January 20th.
