President-elect Barack Obama honored fallen troops by placing a wreath at the bronze soldiers memorial between the Field Museum and Soldier Field in Chicago.
Speaking at the rededication ceremony of the Intrepid Air, Sea and Space Museum, President Bush said one of the things he will miss after leaving the White House in January 2009 is that he will no longer be Commander-in-chief of the armed forces. He urged Americans never to forget the ultimate sacrifice made by members of the U.S. military and thanked them for their contributions.
George W. Bush, US President, said, "They leave home to do the work of patriots, and they lead lives of quiet dignity when they return. Today we send a clear message to all who have worn the uniform: thank you for your courage, thank you for your sacrifice, and thank you for standing up when your nation needed you most."
