In Australia, a farming couple have gone to extraordinary lengths to try to save an endangered bird species.

For the first time endangered Bush Stone Curlews have been successfully released into the wild after being bred in captivity. The New South Wales couple have long been taken with the strange looking birds. They have spent the last eight years trying to save them from extinction.

Tracking devices were attached to the birds and now fifteen bush stone curlews have been released into the wild. There are only a few of the ground dwelling bird left in Australia. Evidence shows their numbers have declined by at least two thirds in the New South Wales Riverina.
