Iran's state television has reported the country has successfully launched a second rocket into space, following up on the first such launch in February.

State television reported "Kavoshgar 2" returned to earth 40 minutes later on a parachute after performing its functions in the lower reaches of space.

Al Alam television pictures showed the rocket taking off and the parachute returning to land.

Iran unveiled its first satellite, called Omid,which means "Hope", and inaugurated its first space center in February when it launched a research rocket.
