China,US sign energy and environment deals

Energy and the environment are also on the agenda at the China-US Strategic Economic Dialogue and the two sides signed a series of agreements in these fields.

The need for energy and environmental cooperation is more urgent than ever. In his address at the opening ceremony, Vice Premier Wang Qishan said the two countries have great potential for cooperation in these fields. The United States has leading advantages in energy and environmental technology, while China has a huge market.

The discussions on the first day has already achieved progress.

Zhang Xiaoqiang, Vice Director,NDRC, said, "We have fully prepared for cooperation in five fields, including hydropower, clean water, clean transport, clean air, and the protection of forests and wetlands. We have made a detailed roadmap for cooperation in these sectors."

Meanwhile, the two sides also expanded their ten year cooperation plan on energy saving and environmental protection, which they signed during the previous dialogue six months ago. Half a year later, the plan borne fruit. Universities, cities and ports are among those who have already signed green partnership agreements.
