With more than two thirds of the population living in rural areas the income disparity is seen as a major obstacle for China to overcome. CCTV's reporter recently went to the city of Chengdu, which was selected to try balancing urban and rural development,and he saw how people there are bridging the urban-rural gap.
Deng Dengjie has won many awards in his more than twenty years as a teacher. One of them is National Excellent Teacher. He is a teacher in the Number 7 Middle School, the best in Chengdu. And he now teaches on a temporary basis at Sansheng town School in the Chengdu suburb, where 90 percent of the pupils are farmers' children.
Deng Dengjie,teacher of ChengduN.7 Middle School, said, "This is part of an exchange programme of teaching staff. I will stay here with these boys and girls for three years, until they finish compulsory education."
In this programme, the best teachers from Number 7 School are sent to teach in Sansheng School for three years. And teachers from Sansheng School are receiving training at Number 7 School. Local students are very happy with the programme.
Liu Aiyi, student of No.7 Middle School, Sansheng Branch, said, "I could never have dreamt that I would one day study in Number 7 School as it is such a good school! But we are lucky to have Mr. Deng. I feel that my dream has come true."
