Int´l media focus on China´s reform anniversary

Special Report: 30 Years of ChangesA Reuters report focuses on President Hu Jintao urging both growth and stability for the country. The story describes Hu's speech also as a "peptalk" in response to the impact of the international financial crisis.
The BBC takes a close look at how China's momentous changes have affected ordinary people. In an online piece titled "Chinese learn to live with reform", it features the career of Beijing's first private restaurant owner and says "The reform and opening up fundamentally changed the way the Chinese economy functions." The report describes the reforms as "amazing" and says the whole society has also loosened up. But the report also notes the rising inequality brought by the fast development.
The Christian Science Monitor says China's economy has broken all records, and the country is a global player nowadays. However, it says the worsening financial crisis could threaten stability. The newspaper also issued a series of reports called "China Remade", looking at the changes of 6 people's lives in China's historic reform.
The Guardian called its report on the anniversary, "30-year journey from Mao to the market". It looks at the achievements of reform, noting China is now the world's fourth largest economy, with endless highways, swelling cities, vast factories and luxury boutiques. But it also made note of the growing gap between city and countryside.
