Earthquake survivors this week celebrated their first New Year since the disaster in Sichuan last May. Though most of them are still living in temporary homes, survivors are looking forward to moving into new houses in 2009.

At one of the largest sites of temporary homes in Dujiangyan -- one of the worst hit areas -- a show was staged on Thursday bringing people relief from the sad memories of the past year.

Quake survivor Yang Jing said, "We suffered a lot in 2008. I hope that everyone will be safe in 2009 and children will grow healthy and happy."

More than 11,000 quake survivors are living at this site. Relief materials have been offered to them to deal with the cold winter. As the New Year drew closer, these people were busy preparing for the festival.

Quake survivor Wang Yan said, "This is the first New Year after the disaster. I'd like to make it more like a festival. I'm furnishing the home and making it warmer, though it's only a temporary shelter."
