Negroponte listed economic cooperation and security issues as the most important at a news conference on the final day of his two-day visit.
US Deputy Secretary of State John Negroponte said, "We have established very solid mechanisms for dialogue, both in the economic and in the political areas. I think I particularly highlight the strategic economic dialogue -- led on our side by Secretary of the Treasury Hank Paulson, and on the Chinese side by the Vice Premier."
Negroponte noted that China also played a pivotal role in the Six Party Talks. He says it's both countries' interest to see progress towards denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.
He also says the message he's got from this visit is Chinese diplomats are "eager" to work with the new US administration in the coming year.
US Deputy Secretary of State John Negroponte said, "The one message that I take away from this visit is that the government of the People's Republic of China certainly looks forward to working closely with the next administration and I believe our new government as soon as possible."
Asked to comment on the relations between the Chinese mainland and Taiwan, Negroponte reiterated the U.S. adherence to the one-China policy.
