Obama to make first foreign trip to Canada

Special Report: Inauguration of Barack ObamaOTTAWA, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- U.S. President-elect Barack Obama will make his first international trip to Canada, the Prime Minister's Office said in a press release on Saturday.
"We can confirm that the president-elect has accepted the prime minister's invitation to visit Canada soon after he is inaugurated," said the release.
Officials have been in close contact with President-elect Obama's transition team, it said.
The release does not specify the timing of Obama's trip or other details.
U.S. presidents typically travel to Canada in their first international trip, although President George W. Bush made Mexico his first destination after he took office.
