China's special envoy on the Middle East has held talks in  Egypt with Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa on  developments in the Gaza Strip.

Sun Bigan put forward five key points on the current situation. The first is a call on all parties to abide by a UN truce resolution and stop all military action. This must be accompanied by a mechanism to monitor the ceasefire to ensure lasting stability. An independent Palestinian state should then be established as early as possible. Meanwhile, the international community should step up efforts at mediation.

Sun Bigan added that China is ready to work with all parties concerned for a satisfactory resolution.
