Special Report:   Inauguration of Barack Obama

WASHINGTON, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) -- Joe Biden was sworn in on Tuesday as U.S. vice president on the west front of the U.S. Capitol.

He took the oath of office before Associate Justice of the Supreme Court John Paul Stevensan.

After that, there was a musical interval preformed by musical masters John Williams, Itzhak Perlman, Yo-Yo Ma, Gabriela Montero and Anthony McGill.

President-elect Barack Obama was inaugurated soon after Biden's swearing-in, becoming the first African-American to hold that office.

Biden, a former six-term senator who helmed the Senate Foreign Relations Committee for a long time, will offer extensive foreign policy experience that Obama needs.
