NATO, Pakistan discuss security

NATO Secretary-General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer met Pakistani leaders in Islamabad on Thursday. Scheffer pledged to work with Pakistan to fight terrorism and extremism.

He said NATO respects Pakistan's sovereignty, but reserves right to retaliate if fired upon from the Pakistani side of border.

Scheffer also said the planned closure of the Guantanamo Bay detention center would not affect NATO operations in Afghanistan.
