In the Democratic Republic of Congo, Tutsi rebel leader, Laurent Nkunda, has been arrested in Rwandan territory by a joint Rwandan-Congolese force.

He was captured on Thursday evening after resisting initial arrest and fleeing to neighboring Rwandan territory.

Three battalions of Rwandan troops were involved in the operation which was launched this week to hunt Rwandan Hutu rebels operating in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Rwandan Hutu rebels have been held responsible for the massacre in Rwanda in 1994.

It is widely viewed as the root cause of more than a decade of instability in the DRC, which has included Nkunda's rival Tutsi insurgency.
