The first Spring Festival since the May earthquake, and memories are still vivid. But for those here today, the prayers aren’t for lost family members or friends. They’ve made a pilgrimage to Beichuan High School to wish the ones who died here happiness in heaven.
Kang Xiaozhen, Sichuan resident, said, “I feel sad for the loss of life. Seeing the site myself is a different feeling. But I’m also deeply moved because I see the survivors moving on. They are very tough.”
The devastated county seat reopened to the public last Friday. Before then, entrance was restricted to the victims’ families. The crowds of visitors are from different parts of the province. They reflect on the meaning of life.
