On Thursday, the country's Independent Election Commission said the delay is primarily because of security concerns. Earlier, the election commission had pointed out that a lack of money, cold weather, and militant activity in southern and eastern regions made the presidential election impossible to hold on time.

Taliban militants fighting the government have called on the Afghans to boycott the election, attacking those working on voter registration.
