Low visibility off the coast of Somalia is hampering the Chinese navy's anti-piracy missions in the region. The eastern waters in the Gulf of Aden are covered in an extreme haze.

Visibility at sea has been lowered to less than 2 kilometers. Experts say the haze was formed by the combination of blowing sand and salt caused by a cold front. It's expected to last for 2 or 3 days.
The Chinese navy ship is escorting 5 merchant ships registered in the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong. The vessels are expected to enter the Bab-el Mandeb Straits on Sunday. The Chinese navy has taken various precautions to deal with the weather.
