Right-wing Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu has accepted a mandate to form Israel's next government. He's calling for a broad, national unity coalition with his former rivals.

Netanyahu urged the leader of the centrist Kadima party, Tzipi Livni and head of the left-wing Labor Party, Ehud Barak to join his coalition. But both Livni and Barak have shown little interest in the proposal.

Livni says her party will choose to stay in the opposition. Without the cooperation of the Kadima and Labor parties, Netanyahu would have to opt for a narrow coalition.
