Special Report:   2009 NPC & CPPCC Sessions

BEIJING, March 4 (Xinhua) -- Overseas media are keeping a close watch on the two annual sessions of China's top legislative body and top political advisory body, particularly China's additional measures to stimulate domestic demand and to improve the people's livelihood.

The National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) has received close to 300 proposals, most of which concern economic topics, like how to expand domestic demand, the employment of rural immigrant workers in medium and small cities, and effective ways to guarantee food production and agricultural revenues, Japan's Asahi Shimbun newspaper reported on Wednesday.

At the Second Session of the 11th National Committee of the CPPCC which opened in Beijing on Tuesday, Chairman Jia Qinglin listed maintaining steady and relatively rapid economic development as the highest priority, the Nihon Keizai Shimbun business newspaper reported.

The top political advisor stressed that issues related to people's livelihood must be solved properly and the focus of the efforts will be put on employment, social welfare, health care and food safety, the newspaper said.
