Party leaders join NPC group discussions

He said the country is facing challenges due to the global economic crisis. But he added there are still opportunities to turn the situation around, if a series of macro-economic regulations can be implemented correctly to boost domestic demand and adjust industrial structure.

The President also showed his concern for people's livelihood. He promised to expand employment, improve the social security system, raise the standard of education and medical services and improve food and drug safety work.

Hu Jintao also requested governments at various levels to conserve more in budget spending and serve the people in a more responsible way.
