Joint forums to strengthen cross-Straits ties

More cultural exchanges are expected across the Taiwan Straits. The government is organizing a civil forum in May to inject new life into the warming ties between the Chinese mainland and Taiwan.

The mainland and Taiwan will also jointly organize the second World Buddhism Forum. The Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council made the announcement on Wednesday.

Taiwan Affairs Office spokeswoman, Fan Liqing, said the civil forum has been jointly organized by Taiwan Affairs Office and the Fujian provincial government.

The forum will run from May 15th to 22nd in cities like Xiamen, Fuzhou, Quanzhou in the southeastern province.

It includes a conference on cross-Strait tourism, a trading fair, movie shows and a conference featuring the presidents of the universities on both sides of the Taiwan Strait.
