The US army has moved one of its battalions from Iraq to Afghanistan. The redeployment took place just days after US President, Barack Obama, announced a new anti-terrorism strategy in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

The US army has moved one of its battalions from Iraq to Afghanistan.

The 100th Brigade Support Battalion was the first army unit to transit from Iraq to Afghanistan. The unit had been responsible for security and detainee operations in Iraq for the past few months.

Before leaving for Afghanistan, soldiers received additional training to prepare for a more dangerous environment. The drawback of forces from Iraq is part of President Obama's decision to commit more military resources to fight al-Qaeda in Afghanistan.
