Shenzhou-7 team receives award in US

The team of China's Shenzhou-7 manned space mission has been honored with the 2009 Space Achievement Award from the US Space Foundation.

The chief designer of the China Manned Space Program, Doctor Zhou Jianping, and Taikonaut, Zhai Zhigang, accepted the award at the opening ceremony of the 25th National Space Symposium in the US city of Colorado Springs.

The chief executive officer of the Space Foundation, Elliot Pulham, said the Shenzhou-7 mission was a significant leap forward for China's space program. He said the mission demonstrated both modern technical capability and the good old-fashioned spirit of exploration.

Doctor Zhou said that despite all the progress, China is still a newcomer and is willing to cooperate with other countries in this field.
