Lhasa speeds up construction of eco-garden city

Special Report: Tibet in 50 YearsBEIJING, April 7 (Xinhuanet) -- Lhasa will spend 1.7 billion yuan building and renovating major projects in an effort to turn itself into an eco-garden city, according to the Lhasa City Construction Bureau.
The capital city of Tibet plans to build one city-level park, two medium-sized parks, 20 smaller ones, as well as green spaces on roadsides. Meanwhile, it will also renovate and expand seven urban roads including the Beijing Road (M).
Lhasa will begin the greening project between its East and West gates after finishing the construction of public green spaces, roads, urban afforestation and nurseries, which started last year.
Meanwhile, it will also step up urban afforestation in its northern and southern areas, improve the shelter belt in the urban area and along major roads and a railway.
Special efforts will also be made to build the greenery view on the northern bank of the Lhasa River and promote the building of the green corridor on the southern bank.
