Rescue work underway in quake-hit Italy

Firefighters, medical staff and other authorities in Italy are continuing rescue operations to save and help earthquake victims in the village of L'Aquila and surrounding areas.

Rescuers search in the remains of a building which collapsed the day before during a violent earthquake in the Abruzzo capital L'Aquila. Earthquake aftershocks rocked the Italian city of L'Aquila on Tuesday, raining fresh lumps of debris as rescuers pulled out more survivors and the death toll passed 200.(AFP/Vincenzo Pinto)

Sporadic aftershocks and harsh conditions.

Despite around the clock efforts rescuers are still filled with excitement when they discover survivors in the debris.

This young woman was found live in the ruins of a collapsed five-story building in L'Aquila more than 40 hours after teh quake struck.

She is reported to be in good condition, except for an injury to her arm.
