China, Venezuela to step up co-op in bid to curb global financial crisis

In Beijing, Chinese President Hu Jintao has met visiting Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez. During their meeting on Wednesday, both leaders pledged to improve bilateral relations and work together to deal with the financial crisis.

Hu Jintao said China will promote a strategic partnership with Venezuela and expand collaboration on energy, agriculture, infrastructure and hi-tech development.

President Chavez said the Venezuelan people were inspired by the launch of the Venesat-I satellite in cooperation with China. He said his country is willing to work with China to weather the economic slowdown.
