SANTIAGO, April 13 (Xinhua) -- Ramiro de la Fuente, General Commander of the Army of Bolivia, canceled his official visit to Chile for "strong reasons," the Chilean Army announced on Monday.
According to local press, De la Fuente's decision could be related to the current difficult political situation in Bolivia.
De la Fuente canceled his visit in moments when Bolivian President Evo Morales is on a hunger strike, supported by many people, to force the Congress to pass an electoral law.
The Chilean army invited De la Fuente in order to strengthen the military relations between the two countries.
De la Fuente had planed to visit Chile from Monday to Wednesday and meet with Chilean Defense Minister Francisco Vidal and Oscar Izurieta, Commander-in-Chief of the Chilean Army, according to local media reports.
