A sampan race has been held off the coast of the eastern Chinese city of Qingdao. It's part of the 4-day celebrations marking the 60th anniversary of the Chinese People's Liberation Army Navy.

The race was held at the sailing venue of last year's Beijing Olympics. Sailors from China and other countries, including India and Australia, paddled two and a half kilometers against heavy winds. China came in first in the first group. China says such activities aim to build understanding and friendship between the navies of different countries.
