WHO: 1,893 confirmed infections discovered

The World Health Organization says the virus has so far been discovered in 23 countries and regions across the globe. Sweden is the latest country to be added to the list.

The total number of confirmed human infections now stands at 1,893 including 31 deaths. The center of the outbreak -- Mexico -- has reported 29 deaths, with 913 others infected.

Next comes the United States. It has reported two deaths on its soil with 640 others infected. Other hard-hit countries include Canada, with 165 confirmed infections Spain, with 73 and Britain, with 28.

Keiji Fukuda, Acting WHO Sssistant Director-General, said, "So far, among the cases being seen everywhere, including the countries with large number of cases, is that the people being infected continue to be relatively younger people. So in general, we are seeing the infections occurring in people who are younger than 60 in almost all countries. There are some exceptions, but in general the bulk of infections are occurring in younger people."
