China speeds up rebuilding of quake zone

China is accelerating reconstruction in areas that have been hit by last year's devastating earthquake. The massive task involves infrastructure facilities, schools, medical institutions, as well as welfare projects. While the pace of reconstruction work is speeding up, the country is also pledging to ensure that the quality of the reconstruction is satisfactory.

Reconstruction of the quake zone has been making much progress over the past 12 months since the devastating earthquake.
The vice minister of the National Development and Reform Commission -- Mu Hong -- says reconstruction of more than three-quarters of the damaged houses in rural areas of the quake zone has been completed.
In quake-hit urban areas, more than 40 percent of new apartment buildings is under construction.
Authorities are also busy rebuilding infrastructure facilities, including schools and medical institutions in quake-affected areas.
