China, Kuwait seek closer ties

President Hu Jintao has met with Kuwaiti Emir, Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah, at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. The two leaders agreed to further strengthen cooperation in various fields.

During his meeting with Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah on Sunday, President Hu Jintao said the bilateral relations have been developing well since diplomatic relations were established 38 years ago. Both countries have supported each other in regional and international issues.

President Hu Jintao said China would like to make joint efforts with Kuwait, to strengthen cooperation in various fields. First, both sides should establish and consolidate political mutual trust by strengthening political exchanges at all levels, and deepen the traditional friendship between the two peoples. Secondly, the two countries should strengthen cooperation in crude oil trade to establish a win-win partnership in the energy sector. And thirdly, the two countries should strengthen cooperation in the economy and in telecommunications.

Sabah agreed with President Hu Jintao's opinion over the bilateral cooperation. He said Kuwait attaches great importance to bilateral relations. The two sides will sign a series of agreements to improve relations to a new level.

Sabah is in China for a four-day state visit at the invitation of President Hu Jintao.
