U.S. Offers 5 Million Dollars Reward for Reporter Killing Case
THU, FEB 28, 2002
The United States on Wednesday offered a five-million-dollar reward for information leading to the arrest or conviction of those who kidnapped and murdered Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl in Pakistan.

"We are outraged by the senseless murder of Daniel Pearl," State Department spokesman Richard Boucher told reporters at a regular news briefing. "We have condemned it in the strongest terms. And today we are announcing a five-million-dollar reward for information leading to the arrest or conviction in any country of those responsible for the kidnapping and murder of Daniel Pearl."

Boucher said a public announcement of the reward has posted on the State Department's website and the reward offer would be advertised in Pakistan in the near future.

The 38-year-old Wall Street Journal reporter was kidnapped in the southern Pakistani city of Karachi on January 23, and his death was confirmed in a videotape delivered on Friday to U.S. authorities in Pakistan.
