Saddam Chairs Meeting of Senior Military Officials
THU, FEB 28, 2002
Iraqi President Saddam Hussein on Wednesday chaired a meeting attended by senior military officials and researchers, the official Iraqi News Agency (INA) reported.

Saddam hailed their efforts "to enhance Iraq's fighting abilities in confronting the evil aggressors and their conspiratorial plans," the INA said, without elaborating.

The attendants included Qusay Saddam Hussein, the second son of the Iraqi leader and deputy commander of the ruling Arab Baath Socialist Party's Military Bureau, Shaheen Yassin Mohammad, air defense commander, and a number of researchers, engineers and technicians in the fields of air defense and military engineering, the INA said.

Amid fears of possible U.S. military attacks, Saddam has frequently held meetings with his top aides to discuss ways to deal with the situation.

U.S. President George W. Bush has recently branded Iraq, along with Iran and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, as part of an "axis of evil" and warned that Iraq might become the next target of the U.S.-led war on terror.
