BEIJING, March 13 (Xinhua) -- The following is a biographical sketch of Wang Gang, who was elected vice-chairman of the 11th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) on Thursday:

Wang Gang

Male, ethnic Han, born in October 1942, native of Fuyu, Jilin Province. Joined the Communist Party of China (CPC) in June 1971 and began working in September 1967. Graduated from the Philosophy Department of Jilin University where he had majored in philosophy. With a university education.

Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, vice-chairman of the 11th CPPCC National Committee and vice secretary of the committee's Leading Party Members' Group, and secretary of Working Committee of the Organs Directly under the CPC Central Committee.

1962-1967 Student of philosophy at the Philosophy Department, Jilin University

1967-1968 Stayed at the University waiting for job assignment

1968-1969 Clerk of the Publicity Section of No. 8 Company of 7th Bureau, Ministry of Construction
