CPPCC welcomes diverse opinions

The first plenum of the 11th CPPCC was closed this morning in Beijing with a declaration on unity and democracy.

Mr. Jia Qinglin, the top political advisor, says that China’s socialist democracy is characterized with multi-party cooperation that involves non-communist parties and those without party affiliation.

He encourages members of the top political advisory body to voice their opinions and give comments on the economic and social development and to promote ethnic unity as well as social harmony.

Members of the CPPCC include those from HK and Macao, the two special administrative regions, and Taiwan, a renegade province of the mainland.

In this edition of Voices and Votes, we are happy to be joined here live by Mr.Huang Youyi, the Vice President of China International Publishing Group,Mr.Wang Huiyao,an advisor from the CPPCC Beijing Committee and David Mahon, the chief representative of Mahon China Investment Management Ltd.

In the second part of the special program, we shall briefly review the achievement and challenges that China went through over the past three decades since this year witnesses the 30th anniversary of the country’s opening up drive.
