BEIJING, March 15 (Xinhua) -- The following is a biographical sketch of Han Qide, who was elected vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the 11th National People's Congress (NPC) on Saturday.

Han Qide

Male, born in July 1945, ethnic Han, a native of Cixi of Zhejiang Province; member of China Jiu San (September 3) Society and member of Communist Party of China (CPC); started working in December 1968; graduate of Xi'an Medical College; master of medicine, professor, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Vice-chairman of Standing Committee of 11th NPC, chairman of Central Committee of China Jiu San (September 3) Society, chairman of China Association for Science and Technology, and dean of Beijing University Medical School.

1962-1968 Studied at Department of Medicine of Shanghai No. 1 Medical College

1968-1979 Worked as physician at several hospitals in Lintong County, Shaanxi Province

1979-1982 Postgraduate studies at Xi'an Medical College

1982-1985 Worked as an instructor at the pathological and physiological teaching and research section of Beijing Medical College

1985-1987 Studied in Emory School of Medicine, Emory University in the United States

1987-1988 Worked as an instructor at the pathological and physiological teaching and research section of Beijing Medical University

1988-1995 Vice-director, director of cardiovascular research laboratory of the No. 3 Hospital attached to Beijing Medical University; associate research fellow, research fellow, professor vice-president of the university's institute of vascular medicine

1995-2000 Vice-president of Beijing Medical University, dean of the university's graduate school, president of the institute of cardiovascular research; academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (1997), vice-chairman of Beijing municipal committee of China Jiu San (September 3) Society (1997)

2000-2002 Vice-chairman of Central Committee of China Jiu San Society; executive vice-president of Beijing University, dean of graduate school and medical school, president of cardiovascular institute, president of biomedicine and interdisciplinary studies center, vice-chairman of China Association for Science and Technology (June 2001)

2002-2003 Chairman of Central Committee of Jiu San Society (promoted to ministerial level in December 2002), vice-chairman of China Association for Science and Technology, executive vice-president of Beijing University

2003-2008 Vice-chairman of Standing Committee of 10th NPC, chairman of Central Committee of Jiu San Society, chairman of China Association for Science and Technology (May 2006), dean of Beijing University Medical School, president of Western Returned Students' Association
