BEIJING, March 15 (Xinhua) -- The following is a biographical sketch of Sang Guowei, who was just elected vice-chairman of Standing Committee of the 11th National People's Congress (NPC) on Saturday:

Sang Guowei

Male, born in November 1941, ethnic Han, native of Huzhou of Zhejiang Province.

Graduated from Shanghai No.1 Medical College with a postgraduate education, majoring in pharmacology. Served as academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE).

Vice-chairman of 11th NPC Standing Committee, chairman of Central Committee of Chinese Peasants and Workers Democratic Party (CPWDP), researcher of National Institute for Control of Pharmaceutical and Biological Products.

1958-1962 Studying at pharmaceutics department of Shanghai No.1 Medical College

1962-1966 Pursuing master degree at pharmaceutics department of Shanghai No.1 Medical College

1966-1983 Working as intern and assistant researcher with pharmaceutics institute of Zhejiang People's Health Laboratory (Zhejiang Provincial Academy of Medical Sciences); (pursued further study at physiology department in University of Cambridge from October to December 1979, and Royal College of Physician in University of London from 1980 to 1981)

1983-1991 Working as associate researcher, director, researcher with pharmaceutics institute and family planning research institute of Zhejiang People's Health Laboratory (Zhejiang Provincial Academy of Medical Sciences); (served as guest professor at Cornell University Medical College from 1989 to 1990)

1991-1997 Vice-president of Zhejiang Provincial Academy of Medical Sciences; director of its pharmaceutics institute and family planning research institute; vice-chairman of Zhejiang Provincial Committee of CPWDP

1997-1998 Chairman of Zhejiang Provincial Committee of CPWDP; vice-director of health department of Zhejiang Provincial Government; director of family planning research institute of Zhejiang Provincial Academy of Medical Sciences

1998-1999 Assistant to governor of Zhejiang Provincial Government; chairman of Zhejiang Provincial Committee of CPWDP; director of family planning research institute of Zhejiang Provincial Academy of Medical Sciences

1999-2000 Vice-director of State Drug Administration; director of National Institute for Control of Pharmaceutical and Biological Products; secretary-general of Chinese Pharmacopoeia Commission (1999-2005); senior member of State Biological Products Standardization Commission; director of drug quality control research and training cooperation center of World Health Organization; academician of CAE (since December 1999); vice-director of Division of Medical and Health of CAE (from 1999 to 2006)
