Qiao Qingchen, member of the Central Military Commission and commander of the PLA Air Force, met Paul Hester, commander of the U.S. Pacific Air Force (PACAF) and the delegation led by him yesterday in Beijing.
Qiao Qingchen said that to develop friendly relations between China and the U.S. and between the two nation's militaries is not only in conformity with the common interests of the two sides, but also conducive to peace and stability in region and the world as a whole. He indicated that the Chinese Air Force attaches importance to developing friendly cooperative relations with the U.S. Air Force and is ready to work together with the U.S. Air Force to strengthen the pragmatic exchanges and cooperation in various fields and at various levels, through which the two sides can learn from each other and complement each other, thereby promoting the development of their respective air forces and pushing for constant development of friendly cooperative relations between the two air forces in the new century.
Qiao Qingchen also expounded China's principled stand on the Taiwan issue.
Hester said it is very important for the United States and China and their two militaries to intensify exchange, promote mutual understanding and trust. And he is willing to make positive contributions for the consolidation and development of the friendly cooperative relations between the U.S. and Chinese air forces.
Hester arrived in Beijing on July 23 to kick off his official friendly visit to China at the invitation of the Chinese Air Force.
