The "Strike-2007" Sino-Thai Joint Training of Army Special Operation Detachments was kicked off seven days ago, in which officers and men of both countries held joint trainings including armaments demonstration, special force skill exchange, applied climbing, combat under battle conditions and cross-country operation in jungles. According to Senior Colonel Yang Wenbin, head of the leading group of the joint training and commander of the Comprehensive Training Base for Military Sports affiliated to the General Staff Headquarters of the PLA, the joint training has entered phase II, to wit, joint training of special operation tactics. As all subjects were conducted smoothly, the Chinese and Thai troops had been successful in frank exchanges and common enhancement.

When talking about the contents and methods of the joint training, Yang noted that extensive and profound discussions and exchanges are the most sticking-out characteristics in the training. During the course of combat under battle conditions, Lieutenant Colonel Fan Wei, Chinese instructor, explained and demonstrated the capturing skills of Chinese Special Force to the Thai servicemen, while the Thai servicemen closely cooperated with the Chinese servicemen and quickly mastered the capturing skills containing the skills of "Chinese martial arts". Afterwards, the servicemen of Thai Special Force fully showed the skills of Thai kickboxing, specially the skill of integrating knee and elbow attack with combat under battle conditions, which really impressed the Chinese servicemen.

The Chinese officers and men taking part in the joint training stated that the joint training of special operation detachments was carried out in mixed formations. Though lack of the sense of confrontation, the training rendered them the opportunity to draw on each other's strong points to offset their own deficiencies. So, the training method of jointly probing into and reciprocal exchange of training experience is equally effective and fruitful. Yang went on to say that the two sides really got combined in thinking, organization and action, which resulted in enhancing friendship, sharing experience and promoting pragmatic cooperation.
