The earthquake has brought sudden changes to children living in the quake region. How they overcome the hardship and maintain psychological stability is essential for their growth.
The Wenhui Daily, a Shanghai-based newspaper, quotes a UNICEF expert Jeffrey Gill as saying that building temporary schools is an effective measure. Children naturally feel scared in the chaotic atmosphere after the earthquake and hope to live in a familiar environment as soon as possible. Since schools are a place they love, setting up temporary schools could help them recall the lives they are familiar with.
By having a place to study and communicate with teachers as well as fellow students, these children would have a feeling of something related to the past and thus feel secure in their daily lives.
Gill says temporary schools do not have to be set up in a building. Tents and parks would suffice. Besides, such schools could also help the children contact family members.
The expert believes that as long as the entire society shows that it cares and loves these children, they will recover soon and live a relatively stable life even after being hit by such a severe disaster.
