In the first half of this year, Beijing subway system transported a total of 645 million passengers. In particular, it transported over 4 million passengers daily over a total of 29 days. The increasing number of passengers has created irregular distribution for peak times for passenger flow, and the subway is crowded all day.
Beijing subway system realized a total of 571,447 train operations in the first half of the year, along with 2,072 temporary train operations. The punctuality rate stood at 99.88 percent. The system transported an average of 3.565 million passengers daily, and it transported 4.711 million passengers on April 30, the highest daily figure so far this year, according to statistics from Beijing Subway.
The subway has increasingly become people’s first transportation choice. In the first half of the year, Beijing Subway reduced the minimum running intervals of trains on three lines twice. On April 21, the minimum running intervals on Lines 1 and 2 were reduced to two minutes and 15 seconds, and two minutes respectively, an advanced level both in China and internationally. On May 21, the minimum running intervals on Line 5 were reduced to two minutes and 50 seconds, effectively alleviating the conflict between transportation capacity and volume.
