How could the airlines and road transportation enterprises cope with the threat posed by the high speed rail?

Oil cannot last forever. Rail transport is a realistic and practical alternative. And it is green if electricity is used. Not to mention efficient. The price of rail transport must reduce while air transport should retain it price for ita niche market. Those who can afford can pay more to cover the costs of operation. It is not and should not be a mass transportation method.Ticket prices for rail can and could be subsidised by the government as a social benefit - much like telephone calls in the West where local calls are free.

I think for most farmers-turned migrant workers it seems impossible for them to buy the high speed railway tikect with relatively high price. On the contrary, The ordinary trains always have to stop as to make way for the high speed trains.I don´t think it really solute the passenger transportation problem...only my opinion but I think the High-speed railway poses threat to airline hehe
