At the invitation of the China Overseas Exchange Association (COEA), an 8-member delegation of Chinese politicians from New South Wales in Australia arrived in China late June and visited Shanghai, Sichuan, Tibet and Beijing. This is the first time for the COEA to invite Chinese politicians to visit Tibet.

Xu Yousheng, deputy director of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office under China's State Council and the COEA's vice chairman, held an informal discussion with the delegation in Beijing on July 2.

Henson Liang, the Chinese deputy mayor of Burwood in Sydney, Australia, deputy head of this delegation visited Tibet for the first time. He said that he learnt about Tibet when he was a student. During his visit to Tibet, he saw evidence in religion, history, and architecture among other things to prove that Tibet is a part of China. He suggested that when introducing Tibet to the West, China should explain its history, current situation as well as the wishes of the Tibetan people.

The head of the delegation, Jack Au, a deputy mayor in New South Wales in Australia, visited locals during the tour. He said he witnessed the beneficial and protective measures the central government has initiated in ethnic minority regions, including Tibet. "Tibetans highly praised the support policies that the central government and other provinces and autonomous regions have implemented in Tibet." Jack Au expressed that after returning home, he will tell "councilors who are prejudiced against China."
