Under a drizzle, at midnight Sunday, workers unloaded steel tubes and other construction materials, to begin preparation for this year's floral arrangement. It'll take the whole month of July to build the flower beds.

The Beijing Urban Forestry Bureau, says nearly a million plants will be arranged in several major groups over Tian'anmen Square. By the end of July, workers will have their hands full.

The work is getting under three months earlier than in previous years. During its longest ever showing, celebrations will be held in the square for the Summer Games, the Paralymics, and on China's National Day, October 1st. Flowers will be re-arranged to suit the theme of the celebration at hand.

The bureau says, recent and current events will also figure prominently in the flower bed arrangements. That will include acknowledgements to disaster relief for the Wenchuan Earthquake, the Hangzhou Bay Bridge, and China's moon probe mission.
