| CCTV Model & Fashion Design Contests in Gear |

The 3rd CCTV Model and Fashion Design Contest, entitled "Golden Match Cup", got into full swing at CCTV Studio No.1, on the evening of October 23, after four months of preparation and preliminaries. Shown on that evening was the first round of the intermediary competition.
Winners from the ten preliminary model competition areas appeared in their local costumes. It was followed by another five rounds of the intermediary and two finals. In addition, on November 2 and 3 there were two finals for designers. The general finals together with the awards ceremony were held on November 4.
The preliminaries were mainly sponsored by the local TV stations in the ten competition areas including Shijiazhuang, Zhengzhou, Tianjin, Changsha, Hefei, Chongqing, Xi'an, Nanning, Fuzhou and Harbin. The winners from the preliminaries were selected through meticulous observation. They outshine the finalists of previous contests with higher overall quality. Many more finalists this year have college or higher academic backgrounds, while some are still college students. They are young, beautiful, healthy and energetic, and fully represent the spiritual condition of today's Chinese youth.
 Another noticeable feature of this contest is the higher level of judging and fairness guaranteed by a judge panel composed of authoritative individuals from academia and industry.
As the intermediary and the finals were aired to audiences all over the country, CCTV was using novel staging in an attempt to embody the theme of the contest: Youthful China. The music composers got together to collaborate on original modern melodies to accompany the contest theme.
