At the end of the year, CCTV-2's Life program will present a rapturous cooking contest boasting the nation's best cooks, best gourmets and most spectacular delicacies.
Co-sponsored by CCTV, Qingdao TV Station and Chinese Cuisine Association, the first National TV Cooking Contest was aimed to promote the magnificent culture of Chinese cuisine by demonstrating diversified cooking skills. It was carried out to a massive response from professionals and amateurs alike and will be broadcast between December 23 and 30 on CCTV-1&2.
The contest is arranged into 5 initial rounds and one final. A glimpse of the entrant's names causes its own excitement. Some are selected among champions of Life's weekend cooking matches, some are prize-winners of national or international cooking competitions, and the others are representatives from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.
The tests of initial rounds are as follows: First, cutting and sorting; second, general questions about healthy food; finally, cooking a dish on demand.
Each contest is graded by a panel composed of well-known cooks and gourmet critics. The top three with highest marks are entitled to the entry of the final.
With higher requirements for contestants, the final is even more exciting. First of all, they are asked to cook a dish typical of the style at a Formal Banquet Combing Manchurian and Han Chinese Delicacies. This is followed by a comprehensive Q&A on Chinese cuisine which demands rich cooking experience. The climax comes at the end as the finalists are asked to cook a series of dishes, combing different local flavors, to fulfill the principle of "the harmony of five flavors".
Tune is to the competition to find out the final champion, the lucky one who will go home with the golden cup and the title of "Chinese Cooking Master".
