The Tenth National People's Congress has elected a 175-member presidium for its Second Session at a preparatory meeting this morning. The session will begin on Friday.
The agenda of the ten-day session was adopted at the presidium's first meeting, presided over by Wu Bangguo, chairman of the NPC Standing Committee. During the session, NPC deputies will hear and discuss reports on government work, the budget and the socio-economic development plan. They will also consider draft amendments to China's Constitution. According to the presidium, amendments to the Constitution require approval from a two-thirds majority of NPC deputies. Other motions only need a clear majority. The deadline for bill submission is next Wednesday afternoon.
