China´s top gov´t advisory body begins annual session

The country's top government advisory body, the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference has begun its annual session. At the opening ceremony on Wednesday afternoon, CPPCC Chairman Jia Qinglin delivered his report on the work of the Standing Committee of the CPPCC National Committee over the past year.

The session was attended by President Hu Jintao, Chairman of the Central Military Commission Jiang Zemin, Chairman of the National People's Congress Wu Bangguo, Premier Wen Jiabao and other Party and state leaders. Jia Qinglin called on CPPCC members to gather more advice and criticism from the public. So far, the CPPCC has collected more than 3,500 proposals dealing with the nation's social, political and economic life.
