Beijing food authorities have allowed the city's Kentucky Fried Chicken outlets to continue using a spice pickle powder after inspections confirmed it did not contain the cancer-causing dye Sudan 1.

Last Wednesday, KFC removed two products discovered to be tainted after discovering a supplier had used the dye in its ingredients. Last Friday, the Beijing municipal Food safety office found Sudan 1 in three other products. The Beijing government has asked KFC to suspend sales of the suspected products pending further tests. Meanwhile, local governments in other provinces including Liaoning, Jilin, and Shandong, have stepped up their efforts to check other products on the market.
